Our Story
My Uncle, LTC Michael Fields, served in the US Army Air National Guard for 26 years. After his service, he was diagnosed with stage four cancer, which he battled for four years before he passed away on May 25th, 2022. When I found out there were no cemeteries in our immediate area participating in Wreaths Across America, I knew I wanted to do something about it, and thus Wreaths for Uncle was born.
Wreaths Across America is an organization that puts live balsam wreaths on veterans' graves at over 3,500 locations in the US and overseas. Selma Memorial Gardens is now one of those locations and is also where 700 veterans are laid to rest.
After a successful first event, we have decided to expand the reach of Wreaths for Uncle beyond just wreaths to serve the community while honoring the memory of Uncle Michael.
